The Statue of Liberty went dark for a couple hours Tuesday night. Some of the lights that illuminate the Statue turned off around 11 p.m., leaving only the lit torch and crown visible to most around New York Harbor. The lights were off for more than an hour. In response to the blackout of the symbol of freedom, some took to Twitter to opine on how the darkness is "an ominous sign of the times." The lights went out due to a power outage that was corrected in less than two hours.
