Sunday was a great day for Pittsburgh Steelers fans, the cast of La La Land and people who like cold weather. But it definitely was not a good day for Volkswagen executive Oliver Schmidt. The FBI arrested the head of Volkswagen’s regulatory compliance office Sunday. Schmidt is facing charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States in the diesel emission scandal. Dear old Schmidty tried to convince regulators that the emissions were technical issues rather than a cheating problem. He told the British parliament that the car manufacturer’s actions are completely legal in Europe. The Justice Department didn't really buy any of Volkswagen's tale and there’s a more than a $2 billion settlement in the works.
