Tiger's DUI, No fish for Predators fans, Cannes and more buzz

TIGER WOOD’S DUI

Tiger Wood’s was pulled over and booked for a DUI Monday morning in Jupiter Florida. The charges filed against him DUI-unlawful blood alcohol/DUI alcohol or drugs. Woods attributes a cocktail of prescribed medication for his DUI rather than alcohol. The 14-time major championship winner was released later that morning on his own. Woods is still recovering from a back surgery in April.  The 41-year-old apologized for his actions and thanked law enforcement in a statement released Monday evening.

GONNA GO GET AN EDUMACTION

A high school student is headed to college. Nothing new right? The twist is Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman encouraged Hershai James to go and is footing the bill. Sherman told James if she became an honor student during her senior year, he would fund her education. James raised her GPA to 3.0 and now Sherman is paying up. The Virginia student is headed to Norfolk University to study business in the fall. 

NO FISH FOR YOU

If you’re a Predators fan in Penguin’s territory and have craving for catfish, Wholey’s Fish Market isn’t letting you buy their fish. Predators' fans like tossing fish on the ice when the Penguins hit the ice. (Get it? Fish? Penguins?) The famous Pittsburgh fish market is having no part of that mockery. Wholey’s is checking IDs during the NHL’s Championship series. If you are from Tennessee, you’re not buying fish there.

WINNER'S CIRCLE

Filmed director Sofia Coppola probably made her legendary father Francis Ford Coppola proud after taking home a Cannes Lion for best film director. She won for the remake of 1971 Clint Eastwood film Beguiled. The Civil War drama, starring Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Colin Farrell and Elle Fanning, is based on the same Thomas P. Cullinan novel as Eastwood’s film. Coppola is the second woman in the festival’s 71-year history to win the award. The movie will be released to general audiences June 23.

NEW JOB FOR A-ROD

New girlfriend and a new career? Alex Rodriguez is the latest sports star to follow an athletic career with a broadcast one.  The 41-year-old former Yankee is joining ABC as a contributor. Former MVP will possibly appear on Good Morning America and World News Tonight. A-Rod is interested is reportedly interested in working on lifestyle-related content. Sports are the one subject off limits. He won’t be talking ball on any ABC show since his Fox Sports Contributor contract is a non-compete.

R.I.P. FRANK DEFORD

Sportswriter and NPR radio personality Frank Deford passed away at 78-years-old on Monday.  During a career that spanned over 40 years, Deford was awarded an Emmy, a Peabody, voted Sportswriter of the Year six times, inducted into the National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of FameAnd received a National Humanities Medal from former President Obama in 2013.

JFK’S 100TH BIRTHDAY

John F. Kennedy would be 100-years-old if he still was alive. The 35thPresidentt helmed the country during the Cold War and the Civil Rights movement. It has been 54 years since his assassination at Dealy Plaza.
